Official Description:

In this online escape room set in a middle school’s art room, your design has been chosen for the traditional painting of the school’s eagle statue. However, in your rush to get to school, you forgot all your supplies! Will you be able to find the backup supplies scattered about the art room in time to paint the statue?

Verdict:

Well, this is it! The final leg of Paruzal's spring competition. And, of course, this belated, last-chance performance turned out to be our very best. Apparently, we ended up doing better than most teams out there... with the notable exception of Team Prospect, who blindsided pundints with a last-round performance which made them the victors. Congrats, folks!

You might notice the room map is somewhat similar to the previous one. With both games available as a combo, Paruzal threw in an extra "gimmick" by having both games repeat some patterns and elements. Honestly, I'm still not sure if this makes the game better. You'll have to make your own opinion, I guess.

Lessons Learned (or re-learned):

• Players... Don't forget that a big benefit of audio-based games is the way you can perform long, tedious tasks simply by describing them. "We pick up all the utensils, sort them, and count them." might just work, and it's a lot less grueling than it would in real life.
• Designers... The trick with having a "Leaderboard" is that they need to be properly maintained, otherwise they might just get on your players' nerves. While it might sound petty, here's an example: while we appear on the "Standard Leaderboard" of the Picnic/Eagle package, I'm pretty sure we didn't actually ask for a hint at any point. Why aren't we in the "No Hint" one? 🤷‍♂️ 👎

Verdict:

Nous y voilà! Le dernier droit de cette compétition printannière de Paruzal. Et bien entendu, c'est cette dernière partie, jouée avec beaucoup de retard, qui s'est avérée être notre meilleure. Apparemment, notre performance a été excellente, si on fait abstraction de celle de "Team Prospect", qui a surpris tout le monde en arrachant la victoire grâce à dernière ronde exceptionnelle. Bravo, les amis!

Vous allez peut-être remarquer que le plan de cette salle ressemble beaucoup à celui de la précédente. Non content d'offrir les deux jeux en combo, Paruzal a poussé le concept en y répétant nombre d'éléments. Honnêtement, je ne suis pas certain que l'idée rend l'expérience meilleure. Je crois que vous devrez vous faire votre propre opinion sur le sujet.

Leçons à retenir (ou à réviser):

• Joueurs... n'oubliez pas qu'un des plus gros avantages des jeux de type audio est qu'il est possible d'y accomplir des tâches longues et pénibles dans (littéralement) le temps de le dire. "Nous allons ramasser chaque ustensiles, les trier et les compter" peut fort probablement être une directive acceptable, et clairement moins ardue et pénible que ne le serait la véritable tâche.
• Concepteurs... le problème avec les "tableaux d'honneur" est qu'ils demandent une mise à jour constante, à défaut d'agacer vos joueurs. Au risque de paraître mesquin, un exemple: même si nous apparaissons sur le "Tableau Standard" du duo Picnic/Eagle, je suis bel et bien certain que nous n'avons pas eu besoin d'indice. Pourquoi ne sommes-nous donc pas dans le tableau "Sans Indice"? 🤷‍♂️ 👎
