Verdict:
Right after finishing "The Secret Lab", my family and I had a bit of a chat with the two co-owners at Locked In EdinBurgh, after which I was convinced to try out "The Cutting Room". Like I said before, I knew that, in spite of their respective TERPECA rankings, some people preferred the latter over the former. I also knew it had a darker theme (which doesn't always please my youngest), but in the end it was decided that we'd give it a try, early in the morning - before regular hours, in fact - right before leaving town for good. Our game would also be the first hosted by their latest GM, French-speaking Axel.
Unfortunately, when we showed up that Tuesday morning, things weren't going so well for poor Axel. You see, Summerhall is a magnificent building, but such buildings have their quirks. An electrical mishap required a reset a switch to which Axel simply couldn't get access to so early in the morning. The Cutting Room was a no-go. 😭 Axel offered us to play their 3rd room, and since we were there, might as well, right?
The Distillery might be the easiest of the three, but it's a nice challenge nonetheless. It looks nice - I mean, it's literally set within the Pickering's Gin premises, so of course the distillery looks like one - and some puzzles were fairly original. Once again, we felt swamped by the amount of things to do (and that crazy-yet-somehow-justified lock count), and I gave up on keeping a live count of my tallies.
That being said, the room is definitely easier (and meant for 5 players max, too). If I'd had a better idea of our time-to-progress ratio, I probably would've eased off, but as it was, we kept a fast pace, and finished sooner.

Verdict:
Impossible de faire "The Cutting Room".
